The Mitacs Globalink Research Award supports research collaboration between Canada and eligible countries and regions through international research mobility. Senior undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows can complete research projects under joint supervision from home and host professors. Each internship unit provides a $6,000 research award, while two internship units provide $12,000. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.

About the Mitacs Globalink Research Award
The Globalink Research Award supports research projects involving academic institutions in Canada and eligible international destinations.
Participants complete their research under the joint supervision of a professor at their home institution and a professor at their host institution. The programme allows eligible participants to undertake one or two research internship units.
The programme currently operates through two streams.
• Allocation stream: Participating Canadian universities receive a defined number of internship units each year and manage their allocations according to institutional rules.
• Quantum stream: Available to all Canadian universities for projects in the quantum sector. These projects do not count toward a university’s Allocation stream internship units.

Globalink Research Award Funding
Each approved internship unit provides a research award.
✓ $6,000 for one 12–24 week research project in the other country
✓ $12,000 for one 24–48 week project or two separate 12–24 week research projects
✓ Approved funds may support travel and accommodation expenses
✓ Approved funds may support research-related expenses
✓ Approved funds may include a stipend
Awards are offered with Mitacs academic partners and remain subject to available funding. Mitacs also encourages applicants to consider other funding sources where needed to cover their total expenses.
Who Can Apply?
Intern applicants must meet the programme requirements established by Mitacs.
• Be registered full-time as a senior undergraduate, graduate student, or postdoctoral fellow at an eligible Canadian or international institution.
• Maintain the required student or postdoctoral status throughout the Globalink Research Award.
• Be at least 18 years old.
• Not complete the project at an institution where they previously earned a degree.
• Not complete the research project in a country where they hold citizenship.
• Meet travel, visa, immigration, and documentation requirements for the intended destination.
• Not exceed the programme limit of two Globalink Research Award or Mitacs-JSPS Summer Program Award internship units during their academic lifetime.
Postdoctoral fellows may apply if their PhD graduation date is no more than five years before the proposed research project start date and they hold postdoctoral status at an eligible institution.
Undergraduate students must have completed their second year before departure and remain enrolled full-time during the award.

Supervisor Requirements
Both home and host academic supervisors participate in the research project.
Supervisors must:
• Hold a faculty position at an eligible university.
• Be eligible to supervise graduate students.
In addition, supervisors based at Canadian institutions must be eligible to hold Tri-Agency funding.
Students and postdoctoral fellows are responsible for identifying their academic supervisors. Mitacs does not match prospective interns with professors.
Country Eligibility
The programme supports mobility between Canada and eligible countries and regions.
For outbound projects from Canada, mobility is available except to destinations classified by the Government of Canada under specified travel-advisory levels. For inbound projects to Canada, Russia and North Korea are excluded.
Mitacs notes that country eligibility can change. Participants must therefore review the applicable status when applying and again before travel.
Required Application Components

How to Submit an Application
Prospective applicants should first contact their local Mitacs Advisor. The advisor can confirm whether the proposed project meets the institution’s funding requirements and provide access to the GRA Application Portal.
The application process includes:
• Review Mitacs and institutional eligibility requirements.
• Identify the home and host research participants and discuss the proposed project.
• Obtain the required Canadian institutional endorsement.
• Complete the application and research proposal.
• Have all participating supervisors and interns complete their required information.
• Obtain the necessary institutional signatures.
• Submit the completed application through the portal.
Mitacs recommends allowing one to three weeks for university signatures.
Application Timeline
The Globalink Research Award accepts applications on an ongoing basis rather than using one annual deadline.
Mitacs recommends applying at least 16 weeks before the planned project start date. Complete applications should generally be submitted 12–16 weeks before the research project begins.
Outcome letters are typically issued 10–12 weeks after submission. Approved projects must begin within one year after the outcome letter is issued. Participants cannot travel until Mitacs has issued both the outcome letter and award letter.
