About the Stigler Center Journalists in Residence Program 2027
The Stigler Center created the Journalists in Residence Program to support the development of leaders in business reporting.
The programme is designed for journalists working across different forms of media around the world. During the residency, participants spend approximately 12 weeks at Chicago Booth’s Hyde Park campus.
The experience combines academic learning, professional engagement, and interaction with the wider university community. Participants audit classes, attend Stigler Center events, work alongside peers, and connect with university scholars.
Programme Features and Financial Support
Selected participants receive financial, academic, and professional support throughout the residency.

International participants should note that the stipend may be subject to tax withholding of up to 14 percent, depending on the applicable tax treaty.
Health insurance is mandatory and is paid from the programme stipend unless the participant provides proof of equivalent coverage.

Who Can Apply?
The Stigler Center encourages applications from journalists who meet the programme’s professional and language expectations.
Applicants should:
• Be journalists working in any form of media
• Have at least some years of journalism experience
• Be proficient in English
• Have an interest in deepening their knowledge and understanding of political economy
The programme welcomes journalists working in media around the world.

Programme Expectations
Participants are expected to take an active role in both the academic and professional elements of the residency.
During the programme, participants must:
• Audit three classes
• Participate in classes and complete the required readings and assignments
• Attend Stigler Center seminars, lectures, conferences, and social events
• Participate in other activities recommended by the Stigler Center
• Engage respectfully with the programme cohort and the wider university community
• Sign a letter of agreement covering programme and university guidelines and expectations
Participants should also have enough personal funds to cover living expenses for up to the first month. The programme states that stipend disbursement can take up to one month to process.
