About the Mark Grosjean Postdoctoral Fellowship

The Mark Grosjean Postdoctoral Fellowship in Political Science honours Mark Grosjean’s life and learning. Mark was a 2017 Silver Medallion winner in Political Science and a BA Honours graduate. He was set to begin the direct-entry PhD programme at the University of Toronto in political philosophy before he passed away in March 2018.

Through this fellowship, the Department of Political Science supports early-career scholars with strong promise. The fellowship is intended to help the selected fellow develop an independent research agenda and make a meaningful contribution to political science.

Research Scope

Applicants working in any area of political science are eligible. The fellowship is therefore suitable for candidates whose research falls within the broad field of political science and aligns with the academic environment of the Department of Political Science at the University of Calgary.

The successful candidate will carry out an independent research programme during the fellowship period. The fellow must also participate as an active, in-person, full-time member of official departmental functions and events where possible.

Who Can Apply?

The fellowship is open to applicants working in any area of political science. Citizenship is unrestricted.

Applicants must meet the following confirmed requirements:

• Have earned a PhD in political science less than four years before the start date of the position in the relevant competition year
• Not simultaneously hold another postdoctoral fellowship
• Not simultaneously hold any other full-time position
• Provide proof of PhD completion if the PhD is not already in hand
• Be able to provide proof of completion by the applicant’s chosen fellowship start date

Faculty Mentor Requirement

Applicants must list up to three potential faculty mentors. The selected faculty mentors must hold a continuing position with the Department of Political Science.

The faculty mentor will serve as the departmental point of contact for the fellow. This role includes providing guidance on University of Calgary resources and opportunities relevant to the fellowship.
