The Stephen Young Global Leaders Scholarship 2026 is available for exceptional candidates who plan to study the Strathclyde MBA or an MSc in Strathclyde Business School. The award supports one year of full-time study in Glasgow from September 2026 and provides full tuition fee coverage plus a living-cost stipend.

About the Stephen Young Global Leaders Scholarship 2026

The programme honours Professor Stephen Young, who previously served as Head of the Department of Marketing. He was also Dr Charles Huang’s supervisor and mentor during Dr Huang’s PhD studies.

The Charles Huang Foundation donation funds up to five scholarship awards each year. Through this programme, Strathclyde Business School aims to support future global leaders in society and business.

Leadership Opportunities

Stephen Young Global Leaders scholars complete their MBA or MSc as members of the full-time cohort at Strathclyde Business School. In addition, they receive leadership development coordinated by the Stephen Young Institute of International Business.

Where requirements are met and places are available, scholars may apply for an additional development activity. The listed options include an international summer school placement, a special SYIIB research project, or MBA elective classes at Strathclyde’s international MBA centres for MBA scholars only.

Award Details

The programme offers up to five scholarships. Each award helps with tuition fees and living costs.

The official duration is one year. The scholarship opens on 11 May 2026 and closes on 31 May 2026.

Who Can Apply

Applicants from all backgrounds may apply if they meet the requirements. The University also states that it embraces diversity and strongly encourages applications from under-represented groups.

• Applicants must meet admission requirements for their chosen full-time Strathclyde MBA or MSc programme
• Applicants should apply to the academic programme after completing the SYGL selection process and receiving a scholarship award
• Applicants must show exceptional academic merit
• A first-class UK undergraduate degree or equivalent non-UK academic qualification is given as an example
• Applicants must be self-funded students
• Applicants must not have access to other funding, such as corporate sponsorship or another scholarship
• Shortlisted applicants must attend a formal interview in person or online
• An interview invitation does not guarantee a scholarship award

How to Apply

The application must be completed online. First, candidates upload their CV using the required file name format.

Then, applicants download the essay questions, complete the document, and upload the answers using the required essay file name format. Finally, they complete the official online application form. The MS form must be finished in one sitting because it cannot be saved for later completion.

Review and Selection

Applications are submitted through the formal online application form. A Strathclyde Business School panel reviews all applications and shortlists selected candidates.

After shortlisting, a Selection Committee considers the applications. The committee is chaired by the Executive Dean of Strathclyde Business School or a nominee and includes senior academic representatives. Committee decisions use a simple majority. If no decision is reached, the Chair gives the final decision. The University then makes the final selection decision after recommendations are shared with the Charles Huang Foundation.
