The Fulbright TAD Scholarship offers German citizens admitted to the Willy Brandt School’s Master of Public Policy programme a structured study experience in the United States. Participants can spend four to nine months at a partner university while accessing financial support, training, and the global Fulbright Network.

Fulbright TAD Scholarship

The Fulbright Transatlantic Diplomacy Program combines graduate study in the United States with leadership development and professional training. The structure allows participants to continue the Master of Public Policy programme within its regular study period.

Beyond the study component, scholars gain access to networking opportunities and contacts with transatlantic organisations and stakeholders.

Financial Support

The programme provides:

✓ Exemption from tuition fees in the United States
✓ USD 13,800 for four months or up to USD 31,000 for nine months
✓ Support for living costs and applicable enrollment-related fees
✓ A free J-1 visa
✓ Participation in ASPE health coverage, subject to approval by the host institution
✓ Training and access to the worldwide Fulbright community

Academic Terms and Practical Experience

Selected students can spend one or two terms in the United States. The total stay can last from four to nine months.

The programme also allows participants to include an internship lasting up to two months. In addition, completing the mandatory MPP internship in the United States after the study period may be possible.

• Elliott School of International Affairs at George Washington University
• Josef Korbel School of Global and Public Affairs at the University of Denver
• School of Public and International Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh
• Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies at the University of Washington, Seattle
• Evans School of Public Policy and Governance at the University of Washington, Seattle

Who Can Apply?

The programme is available to applicants who:

• Hold German citizenship.
• Have already received admission to the Master of Public Policy programme.
• Submit their application during the summer before starting the MPP.

The current deadline applies to students starting the MPP in October 2026 and planning to go abroad in fall 2027.
