About the Commonwealth Fellowships 2027
The Commonwealth Fellowship programme includes separate pathways for professional and academic development.
Professional Fellowships are designed for experienced professionals undertaking programmes connected to their field of work. Academic Fellowships are aimed at eligible academics and support academic skills development, knowledge exchange, networking and future collaboration.
The fellowships are based in the United Kingdom and are connected to development impact after Fellows return to their home countries.
The programme works across six development themes:
✓ Science and technology for development
✓ Improving population health, health systems and capacity
✓ Promoting innovation and entrepreneurship
✓ Strengthening peace, security and governance
✓ Strengthening resilience and response to crises
✓ Access, inclusion and opportunity

The professional strand focuses on structured professional development rather than degree study.

Academic Fellowship applicants must:

• Be employed by a university in a Commonwealth country other than the UK.
• Meet the programme’s wider Fellowship eligibility conditions.
