About the School of Computer Science Scholarship 2025/26

Who Can Apply?

Applications are open to both international and UK fee-rated applicants. The University of Leeds states that the scholarship is open to all nationalities, including UK applicants.

Candidates who have already received a PhD or who are currently registered for a PhD cannot apply. However, applicants who previously studied for a PhD but did not complete it may be considered.

Recipients must take up the award by 1 February 2027. They must also live within a reasonable distance of the University of Leeds while receiving the scholarship.

Academic Entry Requirements

Applicants to University of Leeds research degree programmes should normally hold either:

• A first-class British Bachelor’s Honours degree in an appropriate discipline, or equivalent
• An upper second-class British Bachelor’s Honours degree in an appropriate discipline, or equivalent

The university also recognises relevant industrial and academic experience.

English Language Requirements

Applicants whose first language is not English must provide evidence that they meet the university’s minimum English language requirements.

The stated minimum for postgraduate research study is:

• IELTS 6.5 overall
• At least 6.5 in writing
• At least 6.0 in reading, listening and speaking
• Or an equivalent accepted qualification

The English language test must be dated within two years of the course start date to remain valid.

Selection Process

Applications will be processed after the 30 September 2026 closing date. Supervisors will review the applications and select candidates for shortlisting and interview.

The strongest candidates will then be put forward to the School Selection Panel for consideration for School of Computer Science funding.

The university distinguishes between academic admission and scholarship funding. Therefore, an applicant may receive an academic offer without receiving the funding award.

Academic and funding offers are expected to be issued no later than 10 November 2026. Unsuccessful applicants will be notified no later than 20 November 2026.
