ICANN88 Fellowship Program 2027 in Lisbon, Portugal

The ICANN88 Fellowship Program 2027 provides an opportunity for individuals from different regions and sectors to participate in the ICANN88 Community Forum in Lisbon, Portugal. The programme is designed to strengthen participation in ICANN’s multistakeholder model, particularly by supporting individuals from underserved and underrepresented communities. About the ICANN Fellowship Program

The ICANN Fellowship Program aims to strengthen representation within ICANN’s multistakeholder model.

It creates opportunities for individuals from underserved and underrepresented communities to become active participants in the ICANN community.

Fellows learn about the work of ICANN, participate in training activities and receive mentoring before, during and after an ICANN Public Meeting.

The programme also provides travel assistance for Fellows attending the meeting in person.

ICANN88 Community Forum

The current Fellowship application round is connected to the ICANN88 Community Forum.

The meeting is scheduled to take place in:

Lisbon, Portugal, from 13 to 18 March 2027.

If the ICANN meeting is held virtually, the Fellowship Program will also take place virtually. ICANN states that virtual participation will incorporate the key elements of the Fellowship Program.

Who Can Apply?

Candidates from all regions and sectors are welcome to apply to the ICANN Fellowship Program.

Applicants must:

• Be at least 21 years old.
• Be interested in or already engaged with areas related to ICANN’s work.
• Have an interest in policy development, Domain Name System operations, or the security and stability of the global Internet.
• Complete the mandatory ICANN Learn course or courses.
• Not be involved in or associated with another ICANN-supported travel programme at the time of selection.

Applicants who have previously received an ICANN Fellowship may receive Fellowship Program support up to three times.

Second- and third-time applicants must demonstrate their involvement and engagement in one of the ICANN communities.

Required ICANN Learn Courses

Completing the relevant ICANN Learn course is a required part of the application process.

First-time applicants must complete:

102 Introduction to ICANN

Applicants seeking a second or third fellowship must complete:

503 ICANN Policy Development Processes (PDPs)

The relevant course completion certificate must be uploaded as part of the application.

What Selected Fellows Receive

ICANN provides travel and programme support to selected Fellows participating in an in-person ICANN Public Meeting.

Confirmed support includes:

✓ Airfare booked and paid for directly by ICANN
✓ Accommodation booked and paid for directly by ICANN
✓ Fellowship mentoring
✓ Training and knowledge-building activities
✓ Opportunities to interact with ICANN community members and programme alumni
✓ A stipend of up to US$500 to offset reasonable individual expenses such as meals, airport transportation and incidentals

The stipend is provided after the Fellow successfully completes the Fellowship Program and submits the required post-meeting survey.

ICANN does not provide the stipend when an ICANN meeting is held virtually.

Fellow Responsibilities

Fellowship recipients are expected to participate actively throughout the programme.

Selected Fellows must:

• Participate in the Fellowship Program mentoring process.
• Complete additional required ICANN Learn courses.
• Attend the ICANN Public Meeting.
• Participate in required Fellowship sessions and activities during the meeting.
• Network and interact with Fellowship alumni and members of the ICANN community.
• Complete the post-meeting survey.

After completing the Fellowship Program, participants are encouraged to contribute actively to ICANN policy-development processes and the Fellowship alumni network.

Application Requirements

The ICANN Fellowship application must be submitted through the official online application portal.

Applicants need an ICANN Account to apply.

The application form must be completed in English. Supporting documentation may be submitted in other languages where applicable.

Applicants should:

• Create or use an existing ICANN Account.
• Complete the required ICANN Learn course.
• Obtain the relevant course completion certificate.
• Complete all sections of the online Fellowship application.
• Upload the required certificate and relevant supporting documentation.
• Submit the complete application before the closing deadline.

Applications and supporting materials cannot be submitted after the application round closes.

Selection Process

Eligible applications are reviewed by the ICANN Fellowship Selection Committee.

The Selection Committee includes representatives appointed by ICANN Supporting Organizations and Advisory Committees. Applications are evaluated according to the Fellowship applicant selection criteria.

ICANN states that the Fellowship Program may support up to 45 participants per ICANN Public Meeting, including newcomers, returning alumni and mentors.

Successful candidates for the ICANN88 Community Forum Fellowship are scheduled to be announced on:

10 November 2026 at 23:59 UTC.
