About the European Commission Blue Book Traineeship March 2027

The Blue Book Traineeship gives participants direct exposure to the work of the European Commission, its executive agencies, decentralised agencies, Commissioners’ Cabinets, and the European External Action Service.

Trainees work in multicultural and multilingual environments. They develop professional skills while learning how European institutions manage policies, administration, programmes, and public services.

The programme normally holds two sessions each year and offers approximately 1,000 traineeship positions per session. Most placements are based in Brussels and Luxembourg, although opportunities may also be available elsewhere in the European Union.

Available Blue Book Traineeship Types

Applicants can choose from three traineeship categories:

Selection Process

Applications are assessed according to academic background, language knowledge, and other declared skills and experience. A pre-selection committee then checks the supporting documents against the information provided in the application.

Candidates who pass the eligibility and pre-selection stages enter the Virtual Blue Book. They can then apply for up to three specific traineeship positions published by participating Commission departments, services, agencies, and bodies.

Recruiting services may contact candidates or arrange interviews. A selection becomes final only when an official placement offer appears in the candidate’s account.

Pre-selection and inclusion in the Virtual Blue Book do not guarantee a traineeship placement. Each application is valid for one session only.
