About the University of Camerino PhD Programmes 2026/2027
The University of Camerino PhD Programmes 2026/2027 call launches a public selection procedure for admission to the XLII cycle of PhD programmes. The procedure is unique for EU and non-EU citizens and is based on application documents, evaluation, and remote interviews.

Scholarships and Research Support
The University of Camerino states that 38 scholarships are currently available across the PhD programme areas. Positions without scholarship may also be made available in the order of one for every three positions with scholarship, subject to the required conditions.
The scholarships are expected to be distributed as follows:

The gross scholarship amount is approximately €1,353 per month and approximately €16,243 per year, based on a three-year duration. For eligible PhD students, periods of stay and residence abroad receive additional funding corresponding to an increase of no less than 50% of the scholarship amount.
Each PhD student, with or without scholarship or other forms of support, has a research activity budget of at least €4,872.90 during the three-year course.

The call states that PhD positions require full-time commitment in training, research, and possibly teaching, tutoring, and student services. Periods of research and training abroad are also foreseen.

Who Can Apply?
Italian and foreign citizens may apply if they hold a specialization or master’s degree, or a similar university qualification recognized as suitable by the academic authorities.
Applicants who will obtain the required qualification by the date of enrolment in the PhD course may also apply. In this case, admission is made “subject to confirmation” and becomes definitive after the candidate communicates achievement of the qualification.
General eligibility conditions include:
• Applicants must hold a suitable specialization, master’s degree, or similar university qualification.
• Applicants with a foreign academic qualification must provide the required documentation for enrolment.
• Applicants who have not yet obtained the required qualification may apply if they obtain it by enrolment.
• Additional requirements may apply for grants funded under specific programmes.

Applications must be submitted through the online portal. The mandatory language for filling out the application is English.
The first step of the selection procedure requires the following information and documents:
• Personal data
• Valid identity document
• Curriculum vitae
• Choice of PhD programme of interest
• Choice of up to two research fields in order of preference
• Short hypothetical research project in English
• Statement of purpose in English or Italian
• Final statements
Applicants may also include up to three contact persons who can support the application by completing a reference form. The letter of introduction must be received by 27 July 2026 at 1:00 p.m. Italian time.

Documents for Candidates with Foreign Qualifications
Candidates who obtained their academic qualification abroad must provide documentation for enrolment purposes.
The official notice requires:
• Certificate of Comparability and Verification issued by CIMEA, or Declaration of Value issued by the Italian Embassy in the country where the qualification was issued
• First-cycle diploma or degree certificate, if obtained abroad
• Second-cycle diploma or degree certificate that gives access to a PhD programme in the country of origin
• Certificate of exams or transcripts from first- and second-cycle university courses
• Official translation into Italian where required, unless the documents are already produced in English
The foreign qualification documentation must be sent by 15 October 2026 and presented in original copy to formalize enrolment after arrival in Italy.
Application Fee
For each application, candidates must pay a non-refundable fee of €20.00 according to the online procedure instructions. The fee must be paid by the application deadline.
Each candidate may submit applications for admission to up to three PhD programmes. A separate application is required for each PhD programme of interest.

Selection Process
The selection procedure includes two evaluation phases. First, the Selection Committee evaluates the candidate’s documentation, including the research project hypothesis, curriculum vitae, qualifications, publications, conference presentations, prizes, awards, reference letters, and statement of purpose.
The first phase evaluates:
• Educational and research curriculum and relevance to the research field
• Project proposal and relevance to the research field
• Motivations
Candidates admitted or admitted “subject to confirmation” proceed to the second phase, which consists of interviews. The interviews are preferably conducted in English and remotely.
The second phase evaluates:
• Knowledge of the research field
• Ability to outline research activities within the research field
• Communication skills and language skills in the research field
Final ranking lists will be prepared based on the scores obtained in the second evaluation phase.
