Funding and Scholarship Information

✓ The annual scholarship amount is €16,243.00, gross of social security charges payable by the recipient
✓ The scholarship is credited monthly in arrears
✓ The duration of the PhD courses is three academic years
✓ Some scholarships may have specific topics funded by other institutions or companies
Scholarships are renewed annually after positive verification by the PhD Board of Professors regarding completion of the planned activities for the previous year.
Participation Fee and Exemptions
At the end of the application procedure, candidates must pay a participation fee of €30.00 through the PagoPA system. Candidates residing abroad may pay the contribution by bank transfer, including any commissions or bank charges payable by the candidate.
Candidates from particularly poor and developing countries, as defined in the relevant Ministerial Decree for the academic year 2026/2027, are exempt from paying the participation contribution.

Who Can Apply?
The call states that candidates can participate in the selections without age and citizenship restrictions.
Applicants may participate if they meet one of the following conditions:
• They have obtained a specialist degree, a Master’s degree diploma, an old-system degree diploma, or a similar academic qualification obtained abroad and recognized as suitable for admission to PhD courses.
• They have not yet obtained the required qualification by the deadline, provided they obtain it by 31st October 2026.
For foreign qualifications, the suitability of the qualification will be assessed by the PhD Examination Board for the purpose of the selection.
Additional conditions apply to some reserved positions:
• Executive PhD candidates must have an employment relationship with the affiliated institution or company.
• Candidates for high-level trainee contract positions must certify that they are aged between 18 and 29.
• Some regional scholarship positions require candidates to meet additional requirements stated in the call.

Candidates with foreign qualifications must attach the qualification certificate, transcript of records, university name, graduation date, final grade, and an official translation in Italian or English issued by the awarding university.

How to Submit an Application
Applications must be submitted electronically through the Esse3 platform. The official page states that the procedure became available from 25/06/2026.
Candidates with SPID or CIE credentials may access the platform using those credentials. Candidates without SPID or CIE, including foreign candidates, may access the platform using Esse3 credentials obtained through the registration and login procedure.
Applicants should:

• Register or log in using the applicable access route.
• Select the PhD course and curriculum, where present.
• Upload the required PDF documents.
• Indicate interest in the financed scholarships listed in the relevant course attachment, where applicable.
• Complete the application before the deadline.
• Pay the required participation fee unless an exemption applies.
Candidates who wish to apply for more than one PhD course must submit a separate online application for each course.
Selection Process
Admission is based on qualifications and examinations according to the criteria in the official call and attachments.
The selection process may include:
• Evaluation of qualifications
• Evaluation of a research project, where required
• Written examination, where provided
• Oral examination
The oral exam verifies candidates’ preparation, skills, aptitude for scientific research, and motivation. It may also include discussion of the research project or written exam paper. During the interview, knowledge of the language required in the relevant attachment is tested.
At the end of the selection, the Examination Board prepares a general merit ranking. Candidates are admitted according to ranking order and the number of available positions.
