The Wonju UNESCO City of Literature Residency 2026 is a fully funded program for writers connected to a City of Literature. It will run for 8 weeks in South Korea, and the residency dates are 1 September to 31 October 2026. The selected resident will work at the Toji Cultural Centre and will have a peaceful environment for creative work.

Program Details

During the same period, Korean writers and artists will also stay at the Cultural Centre. Therefore, residents will have the opportunity to interact, build friendships, and learn from one another’s creative experiences. The organizers also state that all program-related expenses will be covered, and there is no participation fee.

Who Can Apply

Applicants for the Wonju UNESCO City of Literature Residency 2026 must meet the following requirements:
• Have at least an upper-intermediate level of English or Korean
• Be connected to a UNESCO City of Literature
• Have at least 5 years of creative writing experience
• Have at least one published work translated into English or Korean
• Be willing to take part in literary events, meetings, interviews, and festivals during the residency
• Submit the application before the deadline

Application Steps

The application must include a self-introduction, literary works, awards, achievements, a description of the applicant’s literary world, the reason for coming to Wonju, the creative plan for the residency, and how the Wonju experience will appear in future creative work. The word limit is 1000–2000 words, and the text must be written in 12 pt font. Applicants must also explain their connection to a UNESCO City of Literature.
