The Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant Program 2026 is a U.S. Department of State funded program for young, early career English educators from Pakistan. Through this non-degree program, participants refine their teaching skills, strengthen English language proficiency, and gain knowledge of U.S. society and culture.

Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant Program 2026 Details

The FLTA Program gives participants an opportunity to teach their native language to students in the United States. At the same time, they help strengthen foreign language instruction at U.S. colleges and universities.

Moreover, participants take part in host community activities. These may include conversation groups, extracurricular activities, and community outreach projects. After the program ends, participants must immediately return to their home countries.

Program Timeline

The tentative announcement period is June/July. The program duration is listed as 9–10 months. Meanwhile, grantees begin studies in the fall of the following year.

Who Can Apply?

Applicants should meet these conditions:

• Pakistani national with a valid Pakistani passport
• Residing in Pakistan throughout the scholarship process
• Young, early career educator
• Minimum of 16 years of formal education
• Teacher of English language or a related field at college or university level
• English language teachers from technical and vocational training colleges or institutions are encouraged to apply
• Prior teaching experience is preferred

How to Submit the Application

Applicants must submit a complete application package online before the deadline. Academic transcripts and letters of reference must be included in the package.

Paper copies are not accepted. Therefore, applicants should complete the online form carefully. They should also review the application form, general information pages, and instructions before submitting.

TOEFL Information

Applicants do not need to take the TOEFL exam at this stage. Instead, only selected candidates will be asked to take TOEFL. USEFP will pay for the test.

Review and Selection Stages

The selection process includes four rounds:

• Round 1: USEFP staff review applications for completeness and minimum qualifications
• Round 2: Complete eligible applications are evaluated according to established criteria and shortlisted
• Round 3: Shortlisted applicants attend in-person interviews between July and September
• Round 4: Final candidates and alternates are selected in October

The interview panels include U.S. and Pakistani citizens. Finalists and alternates are informed by phone or email. Meanwhile, applicants who are not selected receive an email notification.

Finalist Requirements

Finalists are required to provide:

• Medical history and examination form
• Scanned copy of valid passport
• No objection certificate from employer or Government of Pakistan

Other Conditions

The program does not allow dependents. In addition, deferral for the FLTA Program is generally not available.
